'Women of:' Collective
Despite our various artistic practices, we found out that our interests aligned, that we wanted to explore womanhood in Waterloo and form a feminist collective. This collaboration led us to build a kinship, develop a foundation, to combine our strengths and find a common ground that we all can resonate with– how it’s like to be a woman. Our collective transforms spaces to celebrate femininity and promote open discussions about the feminine experience.

Women of: Waterloo
For this project, the collective’s approach is to create a participatory performance- Tea Parties, in the heart of Waterloo Centre/Street where places of beauty rituals (hair salons) and clusters of womanhood (flower stalls) can be found, which made me draw connections to the Kampong Spirit and traditional Malay emphasis on ‘gotong royong’ (mutual aid) where women in shared spaces would gather and foster communal participation. Participants contributed in the creation of this collective artwork by weaving textile pieces in a public yet intimate setting, where we metaphorically and physically ‘take up space’ with our table set-up.
