Dimana Tanah Airku?

“Dimana Tanah Air ku?”, also translates to “Where’s my Motherland?”, is a performance video that explores Fiona’s personal dilemma regarding her identity as a Singaporean Malay of Indonesian and Chinese descent. In tracing her ethnic genealogy– she found out that her grandfather is from Tanjung Pinang and her great-grandmother was from Hong Kong.
In a world that expects too much when it comes to ethnicity, she feels lost and burdened within her cultural hybridity. In the search for identity, Fiona realised and faced an internal struggle— a certain tension, a feeling of being controlled– not by her, but perhaps the land she stands on, the decades of history and cultural identity markers, and it is weighing her down.
